The United States has reportedly carried out a new wave of aerial assaults on Yemen, hitting a confiscated Israeli-linked cargo ship off the Arab country’s coast.
Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network reported on Saturday that American warplanes carried out three airstrikes on Galaxy Leader, which was seized by the Yemeni Armed Forces shortly after the Tel Aviv regime waged its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.
As part of its campaign in support of Palestinians in Gaza, Yemen confiscated the Bahamas-flagged, Japanese-operated vessel owned by a British company, which in turn is partially owned by Israeli tycoon Abraham (Rami) Ungar.
The seizure took place in the Red Sea through a helicopter-borne Yemeni operation on November 19, 2023.
On January 22, 2025, Yemeni authorities released Galaxy Leader’s 25-strong crew in support of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Gaza-based Palestinian Hamas resistance group.
Eight civilians injured in US strikes on Yemen
Additionally, on Saturday, the US bombed several areas across Yemen, among them the Bani Harith district, north of the capital city of Sana’a.
The Yemeni Ministry of Health reported that eight civilians, including two children, were injured as a result of the attack.
Other US air raids hit the Kamaran Island, the Ras Isa oil port, and the al-Sabeen neighborhood of Sana’a, as well as the Kitaf and al-Salem districts in Sa’ada province, the Bart al-Anan area in al-Jawf province, and the Medghal district in Marib province.
The US attacks came after the Yemeni forces conducted simultaneous reprisal strikes against two strategic installations in Tel Aviv and the city of Ashkelon south of the occupied territories, using domestically developed combat drones.
They also launched a joint military operation on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and its escorts in the Red Sea in retaliation for the continued US aggression against the Arab country.
Washington began its deadly bombing campaign on Yemen on March 15 after Sana’a resumed operations against Israel in retaliation for the regime’s resumption of its brutal Gaza onslaught.
Recent reports indicate that the US military’s nearly $1 billion offensive against Yemeni armed forces has had little impact on their capabilities.
Another report, citing US military officials, reveals that Yemeni forces have downed seven US Reaper drones in less than six weeks, resulting in losses surpassing $200 million.
Yemeni president Mahdi al-Mashat has recently declared that his forces remain “undeterred by missiles, bombs, or strategic bombers” and mocked US President Donald Trump for having “stumbled into a strategic quagmire.”
